President Tsai Ing-wen has congratulated South Korea's new president, Moon Jae-In, for his victory in his country's recent election.
Tsai said that Taiwan and South Korea both are countries that enjoy freedom and democracy. She said the two sides have had many trade and cultural exchanges and that she hopes to see more bilateral cooperation.
The foreign ministry also congratulated President-elect Moon through Taiwan's representative office in Seoul. At the legislature, Foreign Minister David Lee spoke about Taiwan's relations with South Korea.
"In recent years, the two countries have had many trade, tourism and cultural exchanges. I also look forward to seeing our relations move forward under Moon's leadership," Lee said.
The foreign ministry says it looks forward to closer relations and exchanges with South Korea.
