Seven crew members, including Taiwanese captain, were missing and one was rescued after their fishing boat capsized 2.9 nautical miles off Shimen, New Taipei City, the previous night, rescuers said Saturday.
Search and rescue efforts continued after Lin Moude, a Chinese working on board the Chin Jui Yi No. 88, was lifted from sea at 8:30 p.m. Friday, said Chen Heng-hsiang, captain of a fishing boat operating in the area at the time of the accident.
Seven crew of the overturned boat, including Captain Wu Tsung-te (吳聰德) and four Chinese and two Vietnamese crewmen, remained missing after six coast guard ships and a helicopter have searched the area overnight and on Saturday, rescue officers said.
Lin said his boat was hit by a wave “higher than an oil tanker” and repeatedly impacted by continuous big waves before capsizing. He said he did not know where the others were after he emerged from water.
