Taipei--Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Shen Jong-chin (???) has been named by Premier Lin Chuan (??) to take over as head of the ministry to replace Lee Chih-kung (???), who resigned on Tuesday.
Shen, 67, a Ministry of Economic Affairs technocrat, will serve as acting economic affairs minister, Cabinet spokesman Hsu Kuo-yung (???) announced Wednesday.
Lee stepped down late Tuesday to assume responsibility after the supply of natural gas to a power plant in Taoyuan's Tatan Township was accidentally cut off, disrupting the plant's operations and leaving 6.68 million households across Taiwan without power.
Power was restored to normal by 10:00 p.m. Tuesday.
