Taipei, The bidding process for a project to encourage households in six cities and counties to install solar panels on the roofs of their homes is to start soon, a Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) official said Thursday.
The six cities and counties are Taichung, Tainan, Chiayi, Yunlin, Changhua and Pingtung.
Under the "Green Energy Roofs Project," local governments will work with private sector firms which will seek to encourage households in designated areas to install solar panels under the supervision of the ministry.
Lee Chun-li (???), deputy chief of the MOEA's Bureau of Energy, said the target is 3 million kilowatts of solar roof top energy by 2020.
In line with the government's goal of generating 20 percent of Taiwan's power from renewable sources by 2025, the government has already rolled out the "2-year Solar PV Project," "4-year Wind Power Promotion Plan" and other related projects, MOEA reports point out.
The progress of renewable energy development has been steady and the government remains optimistic at this stage, the ministry said.
