A second batch of AstraZeneca (AZ) COVID-19 vaccine donated by Lithuania, totaling 235,900 doses, arrived in Taiwan on Saturday evening.
Turkish Airlines flight TK6486, carrying the vaccine, touched down at Taoyuan International Airport at 8:03 p.m.
According to the Central Epidemic Command Center, the doses included in the latest batch have expiry dates of Oct. 31, 2021 and Nov. 30, 2021.
The latest delivery came after Lithuania announced on Sept. 22 that it was donating a second batch of 235,900 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Taiwan in a gesture that reflects warming ties between the two countries.
The new round of vaccines were supposed to arrive on Thursday, but due to complex entry and exit procedures their arrival was delayed until Saturday.
The eastern European country’s first donation of 20,000 doses of the AZ vaccine arrived in Taiwan on July 31.
After arriving at Taoyuan International Airport, the 235,900 doses were transported to a cold storage warehouse, where they will be inspected before being released to local governments for administration to the public.
In a Facebook post Saturday, President Tsai Ing-wen (???) again expressed her gratitude to Lithuania for its latest round of COVID-19 vaccine donations to Taiwan.
“Thank you to our Lithuanian friends for the vaccine donation,” Tsai wrote.
