CORONAVIRUS/New vaccine donation from Lithuania to arrive in Taiwan Thursday

A second batch of vaccines donated by Lithuania is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan on Thursday, according to the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia.

Taiwan’s representative to Latvia, Eric Huang (???), and Matas Maldeikis, chairman of the Lithuanian Parliamentary Group for Relations with Taiwan, witnessed 235,900 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine being moved to the warehouse of the Vilnius Airport, ahead of the shipment’s departure set for Tuesday.

Lithuania donated a first batch of 20,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Taiwan in July, at a time when Taiwan was facing a vaccine shortage amid an outbreak of domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases.

Huang said that following the first donation, many Taiwanese enthusiastically purchased goods from the Baltic state to show their friendship and thanks, and many food items from Lithuania will hit store shelves in Taiwan over the next two to three months.

Symbolizing the blossoming relations, Taiwan and Lithuania are planning to open representative offices in each other’s country.

Taiwan’s office, to be named “The Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania,” will be located in Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital, but Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (???) has not disclosed when the office might be opened.

Lithuania’s representative office in Taiwan is expected to open by the end of this year.
