CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports eight new COVID-19 cases, two deaths

Taiwan on Thursday recorded eight new cases of COVID-19 — two transmitted domestically and six contracted overseas — and two deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Of the domestic cases, one each was reported in Taipei and New Taipei.

The new cases bring the total in Taiwan to 15,947, of which 14,345 are domestic infections reported since May 15, when the country first recorded more than 100 COVID-19 cases in a single day.

The two deaths reported Thursday were two men in their 70s and 80s who passed away on Aug. 20, according to the CECC.

To date, 832 people have died of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 820 since May 15.
