Taipei--A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Tainan City early Thursday, with an intensity of 5 being felt in the southern city's coastal Qigu District, the Central Weather Bureau said. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The bureau attributed the unusually strong intensity in Qigu to the district's relative soft ground and its proximity to the epicenter.
An intensity of two was felt in Lioujiao Township in neighboring Chiayi County, it said.
The minor earthquake, which occurred at 7:36 a.m., was the fourth to struck Taiwan in the past week.
