Ex-president Chen treated for gastroenteritis

Kaohsiung--Former President Chen Shui-bian (???) is being treated for gastroenteritis at a local clinic, his son said Thursday.

Chen Chih-chung (???) said that his father is suffering from viral gastroenteritis and has a fever of 39 degrees. He has been receiving intravenous injections at a clinic near his home in Kaohsiung, his son said.

The former president was sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined NT$250 million (US$8.01 million) in a series of corruption cases shortly after his second term ended in 2008.

He began serving his sentence on Nov. 11, 2010, but was released from Taichung prison on medical parole in January 2015.
