Taipei--Songshan Airport in Taipei was shut down Friday because of heavy rain that has pounded the capital city since mid-morning, the Civl Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said.
All take-off and landing were suspended as of 10:13 a.m., said the CAA.
Flights that were due to land at Songshan Airport were asked to hold off and could be diverted to airports in central or southern Taiwan, it said.
Flights were also affected at Taoyuan International Airport, Taiwan's main gateway located some 40 kilometers away to the south.
Hundreds of millimeters of rain had fallen in New Taipei, Keelung since the early hours of Friday and the heaviest rain was moving south towards Taipei and Taoyuan, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
