Four men detained for attempting to smuggle drugs into Indonesia

Four men were detained after allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into Indonesia, the Pingtung District Prosecutors Office said Friday.

The leader of the ring, whom prosecutors identified only by his surname Lin, instructed two men to make the journey to Indonesia with tablets of Nimetazepamts, better known as the hypnotic drug Erimin, taped to their bodies.

Another man accompanied the two “couriers” to Kaohsiung International Airport, but they were detained by security personnel at the airport Wednesday.

The market value in Indonesia of the nine-kilos of tablets seized would have been about NT$3.6 million (US$112,770).

Pingtung District Court granted a request by prosecutors to detain the four men, to prevent them or their associates, from fleeing, destroying evidence or colluding with each other.
