Taipei, Free WiFi access is now available on all trains and in all stations of the Taipei Metro that spans Taipei and New Taipei City, the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. (TRTC) announced Friday.
Commuters can now access the free service on the 219 trains and in the 117 stations, as well as each stop of the Maokong Gondola, the Taipei Children's Amusement Park, the metro malls and the Taipei Arena, TRTC said in a statement.
Work on the WiFi service has been ongoing since July 2017. WiFi became available in all 117 stations last December and has now been strengthened to include the trains, with a broadband line service of 6M for downloads and 2M for uploads -- double what they used to be.
Lin Chuan-chi (???), president of Free AD WiFi, the company that won the bid to set up the service, said that future plans for TRTC's .TPE-Free AF WiFi service includes working with vendors near metro stations to allow them to advertise and provide free coupons on the nework.
Furthermore, starting in July, it will collaborate with art galleries and digital libraries to provide free educational materials for users.
