Taipei--The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) is expected to issue a land warning for Tropical Storm Hato on Monday afternoon, after it issued a sea warning early this morning as the storm approached Taiwan.
The land warning will be issued at 2:30 p.m. in the southeastern counties of Taitung and Pingtung, the weather bureau said.
As of 8:30 a.m., Hato, the 13th storm in this year's Pacific typhoon season, was located 440 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, Taiwan's southernmost tip.
It was moving in a west-northwest direction at 12-20 kilometers per hour, packing sustained winds of 65 kph with gusts of up to 90 kph.
The bureau forecast rogue waves in southeastern Taiwan (including Lanyu and Green Island), Hengchun Peninsula and the southwestern coast. It advised people to avoid seaside activities in those areas.
