Taipei-The Legislative Yuan on Friday approved the Cabinet's nominees for chairman and five other members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) in a vote that was boycotted by the opposition Kuomintang (KMT).
The Legislature confirmed the nomination of National Central University law professor Chen In-chin (???) as the commission's chairman, effective immediately given that the previous chairman's term ended earlier this month.
Chen, the director of National Central University's Institute of Law and Government, received 70 of the 72 votes that were cast on Friday.
Similarly, Chen Chao-chien (???), the Cabinet's nominee for vice chairman, also received 70 of 72 votes cast.
The 35 KMT legislators in the lawmaking body boycotted the vote to protest what they felt were the nominees' green political leanings favoring the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in what should be non-partisan posts to referee elections.
