Magnitude 6 earthquake jolts off coast of southeastern Taiwan

Taipei--A magnitude 6 earthquake occurred off the coast of Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan at 9:57 a.m. Sunday, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The epicenter of the temblor, which struck at a depth of 96 kilometers, was located 163.7 km southeast of the Taitung County government building, according to the bureau.

The earthquake had an intensity of four in Taitung County's Orchid Island, while an intensity of 3 was detected in Erluanbi and Nanwan in Pingtung County, in Yongkang in Tainan City and Liujiao in Chiayi County on Taiwan's 7-tiered intensity scale, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries.
