A mailbox painted with symbols and images of the indigenous Paiwan tribe was inaugurated in Pingtung County’s Taiwu Township Friday.
Adrucangalj Drusaljiyan, chief of the township, said mailboxes not only serve the function of mailing letters but can also showcase local cultural characteristics to attract tourists.
The mailbox is one of 16 featuring the unique cultures of each of Taiwan’s 16 indigenous tribes that were exhibited as part of the 2016 World Stamp Championship Exhibition in Taipei last month.
After the exhibition, the mailboxes were moved to areas that are home to the respective tribes.
