MOFA thanks U.S. for support of Taiwan

Taipei, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Saturday thanked the United States for its backing of Taiwan and vowed to continue to cooperate with the U.S. on the basis on their solid relations.

"Based on the firm and friendly bilateral relations, Taiwan will continue its cooperation with the U.S. in terms of regional and global affairs," MOFA said. "Taiwan will actively seek to take part in international activities to contribute to the world."

The ministry said Taiwan will do its share to safeguard its own security and will work closely with the U.S. and other like-minded countries to protect regional peace and stability.

MOFA made the statement after U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo expressed support for Taiwan at the second U.S.-China Diplomatic and Security Dialogue in Washington on Friday.

Pompeo said Washington maintains a key partnership with Taiwan, based on the Taiwan Relations Act that is the core of the U.S.'"one China policy."

The U.S. has a solid relationship with Taiwan and is concerned about China's continued suppression and diplomatic confinement of Taiwan in the international community, Pompeo said.
