Much cooler weather expected in northern Taiwan: CWB

Taipei--The warm weather northern Taiwan since the start of Lunar New Year holiday could give way to much lower temperatures and showers in the coming days, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Sunday.

Daytime highs in the region could dip by some 8 degrees Celsius, while those in central, southern and eastern Taiwan might also drop by 2-4 degrees, the CWB said.

Lows in the north and the south could hover around 14 and 16 degrees, respectively.

Strengthening seasonal winds could also bring showers to northern and eastern Taiwan, while moisture from the south is likely to introduce rainy weather in mountainous areas in central and southern parts of the country, the forecasters said.

The weather pattern could last into Thursday, with the mercury rising gradually over the weekend, the CWB said.
