A tropical depression located south of the Philippines will soon develop into a tropical storm and could bring heavy rainfall to Taiwan early next week, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said on Thursday.
As of Thursday afternoon, the low-pressure system was 1,400 kilometers from Eluanbi on Taiwan's southernmost tip, the bureau said.
It is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm soon and move in the direction of Luzon island, according to the CWB.
Although the storm is unlikely to hit Taiwan, its peripheral cloud system could interact with seasonal northeast winds and bring heavy rainfall to the island, probably next Monday and Tuesday, the bureau said.
