Newly formed tropical storm to affect Taiwan’s weather on weekend: CWB

Taipei, A tropical storm that developed in the sea east of the Philippines on Wednesday night is expected to affect Taiwan's weather on the weekend, a forecaster of the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said that day.

Kuan Hsin-ping (???) predicted that the tropical storm will be located some 995 kilometers away from Taiwan as of midnight Wednesday, moving in a northeasterly direction towards Japan's Ryukyu Islands at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

The tropical storm, with a radius of 150 kilometers, was carrying maximum sustained winds of 64.8 kph, with gusts of up to 90 kph, CWB data showed.

The storm is forecast to continue on its current path at least until midnight Wednesday and further observation is needed to see if it will directly hit Taiwan, Kuan said.
