Office of the President expresses gratitude to US government for approval of sale of F16V fighter jets

The Office of the President expressed gratitude for US President Donald Trump's confirmation on August 19 US EST that he has approved the sale of F16V fighter jets to Taiwan and notified Congress of his approval.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Alex Huang stated that these new fighter jets will greatly enhance Taiwan's air defense capabilities. Taiwan will continue to strive to ensure crossstrait and regional peace and stability and safeguard Taiwan's freedom and democracy in a responsible manner.

Spokesperson Huang expressed gratitude to President Trump for the importance he attaches to Taiwan's national defense and security, and for firmly fulfilling the commitments laid out by the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances. As a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue to increase investments in national defense, strengthen our national defense industry and R and D capabilities, and maintain close communication and cooperation with the United States on all issues pertaining to national defense and security, so that we can continue to contribute to security and stability in the Taiwan Strait and in the greater region.
