Pingtung duck farm struck by bird flu

Taipei--A total of 1,456 ducks were culled on a farm in Pingtung County on Saturday after it was found to be infected with avian flu, the county government said.

The highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza virus was detected on the farm, said Lee Yung-wen (???), head of the county's Animal Disease Control Center.

Since the start of the year, 69 poultry farms in Taiwan have been confirmed to be infected with various highly pathogenic avian flu strains, resulting in the culling of some 504,800 birds, according to the Council of Agriculture.
