Police apprehend suspect following shootout in New Taipei

Police have apprehended an armed suspect after a shootout and a three hour standoff in New Taipei City.

The police were chasing 60-year-old Liu Pang-cheng on Sunday morning when an exchange of gunfire started and he fled to an apartment close to Xingnan Night Market in New Taipei's Zhonghe District.

Liu claims to be a gang leader and is wanted in connection with several crimes.

After a three hour stand-off, the police and Liu's girlfriend persuaded him to surrender. He was arrested and taken to the Xindian Police Precinct at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
