President Tsai Ingwen presented Madeleine Majorenko, Head of the European Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan, with the Order of Brilliant Star with Violet Grand Cordon in recognition of her contributions to promoting the friendship between Taiwan and the European Union during her tenure in Taiwan.
In her remarks after receiving the decoration, Ms. Majorenko said that it was a very personal pleasure to receive the Order of Brilliant Star with Violet Grand Cordon from President Tsai. She took up her post in Taiwan four years ago during the general election, she said, and since President Tsai's inauguration, had personally witnessed how the work of the president and her colleagues have made Taiwan flourish. Having been here for four years, Ms. Majorenko proudly recalled working together toward achievements that didn't seem possible, with much dialogue covering so many areas.
Ms. Majorenko then said that after she leaves Taiwan, she will miss the Taiwanese people the most. The Taiwanese people are hardworking, warm, friendly, and open, and devoted to serving their country. The greatest asset of Taiwan, she said, is its people.
Finally, Ms. Majorenko stated that Taiwan respects human rights, the rule of law, and democratic values, and the European Union therefore considers Taiwan a likeminded partner. Taiwan has great people and a great democratic system, and Taiwan's future is bright, and our bilateral relations will go from strength to strength.
Among those in attendance at the ceremony were National Security Council SecretaryGeneral David T. Lee and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu
