Professor Christopher R. Hughes of the London School of Economics says moves to block Taiwan from this year's World Health Assembly will backfire.
Taiwan has not been invited to participate in the World Health Assembly this month as an observer. This is understood to be the result of Beijing's boycott of the Tsai Ing-wen administration.
At a forum organized by Taiwan's representative office in London, Hughes said that China's limiting of Taiwan's international space will only lead to more anger towards China in Taiwan.
The forum included discussion of the risks of globalization and its implications for Taiwan. King's College Professor Kerry Brown said as Taiwan seeks new markets and relies less on China, it can work with the UK which is also seeking new trade partners as it leaves the European Union.
