Taipei--An additional 209 train journeys will be added to railway services from Feb. 24 to March 1, to meet increased demand during the expanded national holiday to mark the 228 Incident, an anti-government uprising in 1947, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) announced on Tuesday.
The additional 209 journeys will include 12 express trains from Shulin in New Taipei to Luodong in Yilan County from Feb. 25-28, TRA said, noting that passengers using those services will be charged a discounted ticket fare of NT$100 (US$3.22) per journey.
Tickets for the holiday period will go on sale on Feb. 10, with customers allowed to book online or by telephone. The timetable for the extra train services is available at the TRA official website: http://www.railway.gov.tw.
This year the national holiday marking the 228 Incident falls on a Tuesday. With an alternative day-off on Monday, most people will enjoy a four-day holiday from Feb. 25-28.
