Rain forecast to cool weather for Wednesday

Taipei, A cloud system from the south that continues to move north will bring rain around Taiwan and push temperatures lower on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The CWB said daytime temperatures on Wednesday are expected to fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius from Tuesday to 21-22 degrees in northern Taiwan and by 2-3 degrees to 24 degrees in central Taiwan.

Warmer weather is forecast for southern Taiwan, with daytime highs expected to hit 27 degrees, down only about 1 degree from a day earlier, the CWB said.

The strength of the rain is expected to fade to some extent Wednesday night, according to the bureau.

The wide gap in temperatures between day and night will continue, however, with the mercury expected to fall to 17 degrees Wednesday night in northern Taiwan, 18 degrees in the central Taiwan and 19 degrees in the south, the CWB said.

The lowest temperature in low-lying areas of Taiwan early Wednesday morning was 18 degrees at the Wuqi monitoring station in Taichung, according to the CWB.

According to the CWB, seasonal winds from the northeast are expected to intensify on Thursday, sending temperatures to as low as 16 degrees.

On Wednesday, the air quality in many parts of the country, such as northern and central Taiwan, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung counties in the east and Penghu, Matsu and Kinmen islands was expected to be good, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) said.

Air quality will be fair in Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung, according to the EPA.
