Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) The prime minister of Saint Lucia has arrived in Taiwan to join celebrations for the Republic of China’s National Day on Oct. 10, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said in a statement Sunday.
Allen Michael Chastanet was invited by the government for the visit, his third to Taiwan since becoming prime minister of Saint Lucia in June 2016, the ministry said.
During his four-day stay, Chastanet will receive a grand welcoming ceremony with military honors and a national banquet to be hosted by President Tsai Ing-wen (???) and hold talks with Tsai, the MOFA said.
Chastanet will also visit top officials, including Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan (???), National Security Council Secretary-General David Lee (???), and Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Wu (???), and call on governmental agencies, the MOFA said.
Saint Lucia is one of 17 countries around the world that formally recognize Taiwan.
In its statement, the MOFA lauded the close cooperation between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Saint Lucia in the areas of infrastructure development, agriculture, education and culture, information technology, and public health and medical care.
The two countries will continue to promote projects benefiting their peoples and those aimed at deepening their friendly relations in the future based on the solid foundation that already exists, the statement said.
