Stamps are ‘business cards’ of nations, show soft power: VP

Vice President Chen Chien-jen (???) called stamps the "business cards" of countries at the opening of the 2016 World Stamp Championship Exhibition in Taipei on Friday, saying stamps allow countries to showcase their soft power in a colorful way.

Stamps offer "a square inch of beauty" and the opportunity for each country to flaunt its cultural and soft power through rich images of its natural environment, historical heritage, folk art and political and economic achievements, Chen said.

Held in Taiwan for the first time, the PHILATAIPEI exhibition features 2,450 philately items from exhibitors from 80 countries and areas.

It includes a section called Discover Taiwan, which displays stamps showing Taiwan's flora and fauna, iconic buildings, historical artifacts, indigenous cultures and folk art and festivals.

Chen expressed hope that people will visit the section and learn more about Taiwan's unique historical, cultural and ecological landscapes through the stamp displays.
