Taipei--The weather across Taiwan and on its outlying islands will be mostly sunny on Friday, with afternoon showers in the northeastern parts of the country and mountainous areas, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.
According to the bureau, most parts of the country will see sunny to cloudy skies on Friday as a high pressure system intensifies.
Daytime highs in most areas will soar past 32 degrees Celsius, with the greater Taipei area and flat parts of central and southern Taiwan expected to see temperatures of 34-35 degrees at noon, when the solar ultraviolet index will be at its peak, the CWB said.
The bureau, however, warned of weather changes and sudden afternoon showers in mountainous areas across Taiwan and in northeastern parts of the country.
Meanwhile, meteorologist Daniel Wu (???) forecast a drastic change in the weather next week, as a strong southwest monsoon is expected to hit Taiwan, starting on Wednesday or Thursday.
Some areas will see heavy downpours in the second half of next week, and the monsoon is likely to last more than five days, he said, urging the public to take precautions.
