Taipei, Sunny skies and high temperatures are expected around Taiwan into Thursday before a weather front with plenty of moisture arrives on Friday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
CWB forecaster Cheng Chuan-fang (???) said daytime temperatures should range between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius around the island, with highs in northern Taiwan forecast to hit 36 degrees.
The southwesterly winds that have brought the scorching heat are expected to continue to affect Taiwan on Thursday with high levels of ultraviolet radiation around midday, Cheng said, and he urged people who have to spend time outdoors to take the necessary precautions.
Despite the sunny weather, thundershowers are forecast in mountainous areas around Taiwan, in particular on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, with sporadic showers also likely in low-lying areas in northern and eastern parts of the country, Cheng said.
A weather front is expected to approach Taiwan on Thursday night and its effects will start to be felt on Friday and extend to June 4, Cheng said.
Daytime highs on Friday are forecast to fall to 28 degrees in northern Taiwan and to 33-34 degrees in the central and southern parts of Taiwan, Cheng said.
The weather front will bring rain to northern Taiwan on Friday and Saturday and pick up in intensity the following two days in central and southern Taiwan as the weather system moves south.
