Taichung Mayor to attend International Mayors Conference in Israel

Taipei, Feb. 11 (CNA) Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung (???) has been invited to attend the 32nd International Mayors Conference in Israel this week and is likely to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a city government press release Sunday.

Lin, who left for the conference Saturday night, is attending the event which runs from Sunday to Thursday in Jerusalem, to promote sustainable and safe city construction and to engage in exchanges with 35 mayors from around the world, the statement said.

Premier Lai Ching-te (???) attended the event in 2016 when he was Mayor of Tainan, it noted.

Lin is expected to meet also with the mayors of Israel's three biggest cities, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa, it said, adding that the objective is to promote exchanges between Taichung and the participating cities in the conference, as well as the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition.

Lin will also visit Jerusalem's tourism development innovation center to learn about developing innovative tourism in old parts of the city, with an eye to boosting tourism in Taichung, according to the press release.

Lin will also take time to visit technology and information system companies to learn more about Israel's advanced digital technology and attend the Muni World 2018, an annual offline think tank focused on key challenges and threats facing Smart Cities, which is being held from Feb. 13-15 in Tel Aviv.

Lin will meet with military technology companies that specialize in anti-terrorism, inviting them to cooperate on urban safety projects in Taichung and provide advice and solutions on safety and protection in order to prepare for this year's flora exposition, the 2019 Taichung East Asian Youth Games and other major events, the statement said.
