Shares in Taiwan ended almost flat Friday after falling for four consecutive sessions, as investors remained cautious ahead of next week's U.S. presidential election, dealers said.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange closed up 0.88 points, or 0.01 percent, at 9,068.15, after moving between 9,048.21 and 9,098.88 on turnover of NT$52.69 billion (US$1.67 billion).
The major financial stocks were relatively strong Friday, while large-cap electronics stocks also ended days of losses.
Fubon Financial Holding Co. (???) rose 0.92 percent to finish at NT$43.9, Cathay Financial Holding Co. (???) gained 1.51 percent to close at NT$40.4; and Yuanta Financial Holding Co. (???) ended 2.2 percent higher at NT$11.6.
Among the leading electronic stocks, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (???) closed flat at NT$184.5, while Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (??) was up 0.37 percent at NT$82.
