Taipei--Taiwan will take on the United States for the right to be crowned the fourth WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup champions in Tainan on Sunday, after defeating Nicaragua 9-1 in the tournament's Super Round on Saturday.
Taiwan and the U.S. are tied in first place of the six-team round-robin Super Round standings with 4 wins and 1 loss each. The other teams in the competition are Japan, Mexico and South Korea.
In other Super Round games played on Saturday, the U.S. defeated Mexico 12-10, while Japan downed South Korea 6-5. Japan and Mexico will play for bronze on Sunday.
A total of 12 countries participated in the biennial tournament that kicked off on July 28. In the opening round the teams were divided into two groups of six teams. The top three in each group then advanced to the Super Round Competition, while the other six teams played in the Consolation Round.
The teams playing in the Consolation Round are Panama, Brazil, Australia, Germany, the Czech Republic and South Africa.
