Taiwan’s APEC envoy satisfied with his performance

Opposition People First Party Chairman James Soong (宋楚瑜), who represented Taiwan at the 2016 APEC leaders’ meeting in Peru, said Sunday he was pleased with his performance at the summit.

At a news conference after the summit’s closing ceremony, Soong said he had interacted with every leader at the meeting without exception.

He said his performance could be seen as “scoring a home run.”

In his conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平), Soong said, they discussed mainly cross-Taiwan Strait economic and trade exchanges.

Asked about a statement by China’s Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) that Xi had merely “exchange greetings” with him, Soong said he respected the TAO’s statement.
