Bangkok--Three Taiwanese men who had fled Taiwan following convictions for cross-border telecom fraud were repatriated to Taiwan on Wednesday after being arrested in Thailand earlier this month.
The three men, identified only by their surnames Lin, Chang and Wu, were involved in telecom fraud in Indonesia in 2015 and repatriated to Taiwan. They were later convicted and sentenced to prison terms in their home country.
But before being jailed, the three men fled overseas, and the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office issued arrest warrants for them.
Taiwan's law enforcement authorities notified their counterparts in Thailand that the three men had fled to Thailand, and Taiwan's representative office there and Thai police joined hands to arrest them at a hotel in Bangkok on March 4.
Data from Thailand's Immigration Bureau showed that they entered Thailand in January.
The capture of the men was the latest case of cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand since the two countries signed an agreement on Jan. 17, 2013 to cooperate in combating crime and stepping up the fight against cross-border criminal activity.
