Trekker lost in Himalayas returns to Taiwan

A Taiwanese trekker who was missing in the Himalayas for 47 days has arrived back in the country. 21-year-old Liang Sheng-yue arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Tuesday. That's six days after he was discovered along with the body of his girlfriend, 19-year-old Liu Chen-chun.

Liang and Liu had been hiking around the remote Ganesh Himal route in Nepal. On March 9, they fell into a ravine from which they were unable to climb out. The search for the missing hikers was impaired by bad weather. By the time the pair were discovered on April 26, Liu had perished three days previously.

Doctors described Liang as severely malnourished and having lost 30 kilos of body weight through the ordeal. He was initially treated at a local hospital accompanied by family members.
