Taipei-A tropical depression near Guam turned into Tropical Storm Sanvu on Monday afternoon, but it is likely headed toward Japan and will have little effect on Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said on Monday.
Another tropical depression could form off the east coast of Philippines on Wednesday or Thursday, which could result in showers in southern Taiwan and southern China from Friday to Sunday, according to CWB weather forecaster Chu Mei-lin (???).
But the tropical depression is not likely to become a typhoon, Chu said.
