President Tsai Ing-wen has pledged to boost development in central Taiwan. The president was speaking on Monday at the opening ceremony of the Asia Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in the central city of Taichung.
Tsai said the government will work to upgrade both the local industry and the living environment in central Taiwan. The president said the region boasts several unique industries that can offer new business opportunities, including: smart machinery, green energy, the aerospace industry, as well as new agriculture.
Tsai also spoke about land scarcity, which has been an obstacle facing businesspeople interested in investing in Taiwan. She said that since taking office last May, her administration has been working to solve that problem.
The president said the government's forward-looking infrastructure plan includes a project that will develop localized industrial parks. The project will help local governments develop areas that have already been marked for use by the industrial sector.
