Cabinet spokesman Tung Chen-yuan (???) will serve as National Security Council advisor beginning on Oct. 1, Presidential Office spokesman Alex Huang (???) said Sunday.
Tung, who has quit his Cabinet post, will be replaced by Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Hsu Kuo-yung (???) on the same day, an Executive Yuan statement said.
Tung is an expert on cross-Taiwan Strait affairs and trade and economic issues. He had also served as deputy mainland affairs minister, Huang said.
Tung's expertise is expected to serve the country well in his new post as national security advisor, according to Huang.
Meanwhile, the Legislative Yuan post vacated by Hsu will be filled by Chiu Tai-yuan (???), a National Taiwan University Hospital physician.
