TWSE holds Hong Kong investor conference for 26 local listed firms

The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and Macquarie Securities held an investor conference in Hong Kong for 26 listed companies from Taiwan, representatives of which met with potential foreign institutional investors in the territory.

Lee Chi-hsien (李啟賢), president of the TWSE, led the delegation organized by the 26 Taiwanese firms listed on the local main board and over-the-counter market to the investor conference last week, which was well received by foreign institutional investors.

The TWSE, which operates the local main board, said that the delegation was comprised of companies from a wide range of industries, including financial, electronics, medicare, machinery, textiles and plastics sectors.

During the two-day conference, the TWSE arranged 522 one-on-one meetings that allowed the representatives to discuss their fundamentals and industry outlook with about 130 foreign investors.

As Hong Kong is home to many institutional investors from the United States and Europe, the one-on-one meetings raised awareness about Taiwan’s industrial development and the country’s strengths in the global market, the TWSE said.

In addition to the one-on-one meetings, the TWSE threw a luncheon where it introduced the Taiwan capital market to more than 50 institutional investors, including representatives from asset management firms, securities houses and insurance companies.

Chen Li-ching (陳麗卿), a manager in TWSE’s trading department briefed guests at the luncheon on the recent performance of Taiwan’s capital market and the progress in corporate governance made by Taiwanese firms.

During the luncheon, many foreign investors expressed interest in Taiwan’s market openness policy and appeared eager to exchange views with TWSE executives, the exchange said.

As Hong Kong is one of the main financial hubs in the Asian Pacific region, the TWSE decided to hold an investor conference there to introduce Taiwanese firms with good fundamentals as part of ongoing efforts to attract more foreign funds into the country.

As of the end of October, foreign institutional investors accounted for 41.14 percent of total market capitalization in the Taiwan equity market and have been playing a more important role in the local market, according to the TWSE.

The TWSE said that the conference held in Hong Kong showcased the exchange’s ambitions to help the local equity market gain global visibility.
