The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange opened at 9,032.38 today. After moving between 9,032.38 and 9,100.05 the index closed at 9,090.13 points, up 102.58. Turnover totaled NT$62.40 billion.
The weighted index, excluding the financial sector, closed at 7,730.99 points, up 87.43.
A total of 3,320 stocks closed up, and 2,010 ended down with 388 unchanged.
The top 10 stocks in terms of trading volume were 2409, 00632R, 00637L, 2349, 3481, 2317, 2603, 2886, 8112 and 00633L.

The top 10 stocks in terms of market capitalization were 2330, 2317, 6505, 2412, 2882, 1301, 3008, 1303, 1326 and 2881.
Foreign institutional investors bought a net NT$8.17 billion worth of shares on the TWSE, and local investment trust firms recorded a net buy of NT$326 million. Proprietary securities firms for self-trading purposes served as net buyers of NT$10 million, while proprietary securities firms for hedging purposes sold a net NT$533 million.
According to the TWSE, market capitalization of the local main board stood at NT$26.50 trillion last week, down NT$422.42 billion from a week earlier.
The TWSE said that the weighted index on the main board fell 144.17 points, or 1.58 percent last week. The FTSE TWSE Taiwan 50 Index lost 121.41 points or 1.77 percent, while the Formosa Stock Index shed 165.04 points, or 1.56 percent in the week.
Among the major sectors on the main board, the transportation sector scored the highest gains of 3.41 percent, while the cement sector suffered the steepest decline of 6.43 percent.
The index, excluding the financial sector, fell 139.11 points or 1.79 percent, the index, excluding the electronics sector, lost 169.90 points or 1.34 percent, and the index, excluding the financial and electronics sectors, shed 199.80 points or 1.80 percent.
The TWSE said that the total turnover on main board hit NT$383.62 billion, and stock turnover reached NT$352.50 billion last week with the turnover ratio at 1.34 percent.
The top three sectors in terms of turnover were the semiconductor sector, the sector of other electronics devices, and the optoelectronics sector.
Turnover of the semiconductor sector totaled NT$54.57 billion, accounting for 15.48 percent of the total stock turnover, turnover of the sector of other electronics devices reached NT$53.94 billion, representing 15.30 percent, and turnover of the optoelectronics sector hit NT$37.39 billion, making up 10.61 percent.
The top three sectors in terms of turnover ratio were the optoelectronics sector (3.22 percent), the sector of other electronics devices (2.76 percent), and the electronics component sector (2.52 percent).
The TWSE said that since the beginning of this year, there had been 163 trading sessions on the local main board. During the period, turnover totaled NT$13.26 trillion billion with the daily average at NT$81.35 billion, and the turnover ratio hit 43.30 percent with the daily average at 0.27 percent.
