Youth Leadership Summit Fostering High School Leaders

2019 Youth Leadership Summit was held at Da Tung Senior High School from July 1st to 3rd. 48 senior high school students from seven countries, including the US, Italy, Belgium, Indonesia, Congo and others, and Da Tung Senior High School, Pingtung Senior High School and Pingtung Girls' Senior High School participated in the global issues forum and roundtable meetings. County Mayor Meng-An Pan said that these young students explored issues on table manners and food culture and learned the daily lives of local students and Taiwan's local culture through the homestay program. He hoped that the exchanges and learning would prepare the young leaders better for the future.

The Youth Leader Family Table Summit is a forum conducted fully in English. The event is in its sixth year and it enables the local and international students to communicate with each other and exchange ideas on topics such as differences created by nationality, locality, culture, geographical environment and others, facilitating a broader international perspective and cross-ethnic friendship.

County Mayor Meng-An Pan said that hosting the Summit this year enables the youth leaders from different parts of the world to interact through communication at the dining table to gain a better understanding of different cultures and prevent shocks or conflicts arising from cultural differences. Young students of Pingtung also have the opportunity to gain a broader perspective and are encouraged to practice English under a relaxing learning and exchange environment, further demonstrating the talent nurturing efforts of Pingtung County.

County Mayor Meng-An Pan hoped that the exchange and sharing allow our international friends to feel the passion of the South of the Border and further understand Pingtung and Taiwan. The UN meeting in August next year will invite many youth leaders from around to world to share their experience in the UN conference, and they will be able to showcase the most beautiful side of Taiwan to the whole world.

The Department of Education said that the theme of this year's event is competitiveness and decision-making and the future development of hope of the youth. The inter-school collaboration of the youth leadership camp identifies the social mission and value young students should have, and the exchange of different cultures in the world is incorporated to improve the global competitiveness of countries. All participating students can connect themselves to the world through learning, interaction and exchange, and they are encouraged to use their creativity and enthusiasm to promote Taiwan to the world.
