3 Taiwanese Boxers Reach World Boxing Cup Finals in India


Taipei: Three Taiwanese female boxers have advanced to the finals of the World Boxing Cup currently taking place in India. The competitors include Olympic bronze medalists Wu Shih-yi and Chen Nien-chin, alongside the young talent of Guo Yi-xuan.



According to Focus Taiwan, Chen Nien-chin, competing in the 65-kilogram division, faced India’s Neeraj Phogat in the semifinals. Despite falling behind in the initial rounds, Chen made a strong comeback in the third round, securing her place in the finals. She adopted an aggressive approach, earning unanimous scores from the judges. Post-match, Chen expressed confidence in her abilities, stating her determination to win was unwavering. She will face England’s Dione Burman in the finals, which she hopes will set a positive tone for her participation in the upcoming Asian Games.



In another semifinal bout, 20-year-old Guo Yi-xuan clinched a 4-1 victory against Kazakhstan’s Zhansaya Rakhymberdi in the women’s 51-kg category. Guo employed effective counter-strategies and maintained her lead despite a point deduction. Her coach, Ko Wen-ming, praised her tactical execution and quick footwork, emphasizing the significance of her win against a skilled Kazakh opponent.



Wu Shih-yi, the third Taiwanese boxer to reach the finals, achieved a decisive 5-0 win against South Korea’s Park Ahhyeon in the 57-kg semifinals. Wu acknowledged feeling nervous about her upcoming match against Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria, the reigning gold medalist from the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. However, she remains focused on delivering a strong performance in the finals.
