Taipei: Four people were rescued on Saturday after a yacht began taking on water and capsized off Dongji Islet in Penghu County, according to the Coast Guard Administration (CGA). The Penghu-registered yacht, “Daily Ocean,” capsized about 2 nautical miles off Dongji Islet at around 9:25 a.m., apparently after rough seas caused it to take on water, the CGA’s 13th Patrol District Headquarters said.
According to Focus Taiwan, the vessel lost power before overturning, sending all four people on board, including the captain surnamed Lee, into the water. They were rescued by the nearby fishing vessel “San Chuan Fa” before Coast Guard patrol boats arrived at the scene.
The Penghu Coast Guard’s Seventh Patrol Corps reported that the yacht departed Magong’s Second Fishing Port at 6:28 a.m. for a diving trip near Dongji Islet, with the four people on board. The Coast Guard said it had dispatched a patrol vessel after receiving the report, but the occupants had already been rescued by the nearby fishing boat.
A tugboat has been arranged to tow the capsized yacht, while Coast Guard personnel remain at the scene to maintain a safety perimeter.
