Taipei: Taiwan's Aerospace Industrial Development Corp. (ADIC) has announced a significant 20-year partnership agreement with the Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier. The agreement, formalized during a ceremony in Taipei, outlines ADIC's commitment to supplying cockpit and forward fuselage structural components for Bombardier's Challenger 3500 business jets.
According to Focus Taiwan, the collaboration represents a new milestone in the longstanding relationship between the two companies, which began in 1999. Previously, ADIC has supplied rear fuselage structural components for over 1,000 Challenger 3500 jets. The forward fuselage components, now included in the agreement, demand advanced technical expertise, which ADIC has demonstrated through a successful review by Bombardier in April.
The agreement marks a pivotal development for ADIC's civil aviation business. Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin, who observed the exchange ceremony, emphasized the international confidence in "Made in Taiwan" products. He highlighted Taiwan's emerging role as a key supplier of fuselage structural components for large and medium-sized aircraft, underscoring ADIC's expanding technological capabilities.
Kung noted the ongoing restructuring of the global aerospace supply chain, with international manufacturers seeking resilient partners like ADIC. He also mentioned that the substantial value of Bombardier's orders is likely to involve other Taiwanese suppliers, benefiting the nation's entire aerospace industry.
ADIC highlighted the technical challenges of producing forward fuselage components, given their complex design and integration requirements. Only a handful of suppliers worldwide possess the capability to meet these demands. Over the 20-year agreement, ADIC expects to deliver structural components for at least 500 Challenger 3500 fuselages.
Eric Filion, Bombardier's executive vice president for programs and supply chain, praised ADIC as a critical supplier and emphasized the trust that underpins their cooperation. Filion remarked that the agreement reflects the stable, long-term relationship between Bombardier and ADIC, reinforcing Bombardier's commitment to working with qualified suppliers globally to maintain high standards of quality, performance, and reliability.
