Arrest of man who illegally cut rosewood in Khao Yai National Park

Khao Yai National Park officials arrested two men who were illegally cutting rosewood in Khao Yai National Park. The suspects and evidence were taken to Prachantakham Police Station for legal proceedings. Mr. Chaiya Huaihongthong, Chief of Khao Yai National Park, said that officers from Khao Yai National Park Protection Unit 10 (Prachantakham) ambush and monitor the behavior of a group of rosewood poachers in the Khao Bubak Khuen forest, Bu Fai sub-district, Prachantakham district, Prachin Buri province. They then seized and arrested two people involved in the poaching, along with evidence as follows: 1 piece of rosewood, volume 0.193 cubic meters, 1 cart, 2 bow saws, 2 machetes, 1 tape measure, 1 rope, and 1 motorcycle. After the arrest record was made, the suspect, along with the evidence and the arrest record were handed over to the investigation officer at Prajantakham Police Station, Prajantakham District, Prachin Buri Province, to be charged in accordance with the authority and legal procedures. Mr. Chaiya said that Khao Yai National Park has raised the level of quality patrols and inspected and suppressed illegal forestry activities according to the order of Mr. Atthaphon Charoenchansa, Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, which has resulted in continuous arrests of illegal logging and valuable timber trade groups in Khao Yai National Park.
