Taipei: The Executive Yuan has sanctioned a substantial investment plan amounting to NT$48.9 billion (US$1.47 billion) over the next five years to enhance working conditions in Taiwan's medical facilities and focus on three other crucial areas related to healthcare.
According to Focus Taiwan, the approved plan, effective from this year through 2029, aims to position Taiwan as the leading medically-advanced nation in the Asia-Pacific region. Besides improving working conditions, the initiative will concentrate on cultivating diverse talent, implementing smart medical services, and fostering social responsibility within the healthcare sector.
Healthcare facilities and medical organizations, including societies and associations, will have the opportunity to propose projects and seek funding across the four specified areas. During a press conference, Premier Cho Jung-tai emphasized the need for the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) to meticulously evaluate each proposal to ensure fair distribution of funds, preventing dominance by larger entities.
Cabinet spokesperson Michelle Lee highlighted that the plan aligns with President Lai Ching-te's policy of building a "healthy Taiwan." The initiative aims to address current challenges within the healthcare system, fostering a resilient and inclusive environment for medical professionals across various fields while ensuring equitable resource allocation.
The overarching goal is to significantly improve Taiwan's medical landscape, thereby enhancing public health and well-being.
