Chinese Man Barred from Taiwan for Filming Restricted Airport Areas

Taipei: A Chinese man who uploaded video footage of restricted areas at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport will be barred from entering Taiwan for two years, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) announced.

According to Focus Taiwan, the man shared a vlog on the Shanghai-based video platform Bilibili under the account name "White Sheep in the Sky," documenting his arrival at the airport. The footage included scenes from security screening and immigration inspection areas, where photography is prohibited. The video also referred to Taiwan as "China Taiwan" and obscured Taiwan's official flag with a People's Republic of China flag emoji.

As the video gained attention on the social media platform Threads, the NIA identified the traveler and placed him on a watchlist. The agency noted that the man entered and left Taiwan in November 2025 and is suspected of using a concealed wearable camera to film the restricted airport areas, violating airport regulations.

The NIA emphasized that such actions disrupt airport security procedures and may infringe on the privacy and personal data rights of other travelers. Individuals caught filming prohibited areas will be ordered to stop immediately, and those who refuse may be detained for investigation. Travelers who have already left the country will be put on a watchlist.

Huang Yu-chieh, an officer with the NIA's Entry and Exit Affairs Division, stated that the man will be barred from entering Taiwan for two years under entry permit regulations for Chinese nationals. After the ban, any future applications to enter Taiwan will undergo strict review in consultation with relevant agencies, including the Mainland Affairs Council.
