Kinmen: A Chinese man was detained by immigration officials in Kinmen on Thursday after waving a Chinese flag and distributing pro-unification flyers inside the county government building. The National Immigration Agency’s special operation brigade in Kinmen told CNA that the man, surnamed Lu, arrived on the outlying island by ferry and is being questioned about his motives for entering Taiwan.
According to Focus Taiwan, if Lu is found to have violated the terms of his entry permit, he will be deported under the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area. A security guard surnamed Wu, who witnessed the incident, told CNA that the man entered the building around 9 a.m., carrying a flag that had the Republic of China flag (Taiwan) on one side and that of the People’s Republic of China on the other, then began throwing flyers that read “unification with Taiwan.”
Wu mentioned that he and county government staff stopped the man, and police were called when he tried to lea
ve. The man reportedly stated he did not mind the police being called, saying he would “at most be fined,” according to Wu, who added that the incident was peaceful and unlike anything seen before.
